A Fall Wish List

Plus: The food of the moment, and more.

Hi friend,

Gentle suggestion: Try prunes. We’re predicting they’re going to make a comeback. Why? Well first of all, one of the hottest new trends in the “wellness” world is fiber. It makes sense if you think about the newfound fascination with gut health, whatever that means, and how backed up everyone on the protein train probably is. It’s also a reaction to fears about increased rates of colon cancer; research shows that upping your fiber intake can reduce your risk.

That’s not the only reason, though. Studies, including a recent one, have shown that prunes specifically can help women guard against osteoporosis. The magical number of daily prunes, according to a 2022 study, was five to six – but beginners should start with one or two per day. Because even though everyone's full of shit these days, you don't have to be. (Too much?)

Bye,
Your friends at Gloria

TO READ In need of a job, a 39-year-old woman attempts to turn a crumbling mansion into a hype house for TikTok influencers. If this sounds vaguely horrorifying, it is. It’s also the plot of a buzzy new satire, If You’re Seeing This, It’s Meant for You (Bookshop, Amazon).

TO TRY Trade Coffee, a specialty coffee marketplace featuring over 450 handpicked roasts from passionate small-batch roasters worldwide. Our perfect cup was just a quiz away! Freshly roasted and delivered within 48 hours, Trade has completely transformed our mornings, and we’re excited to share it with you. As a Gloria reader, enjoy an exclusive 50 percent off your first month when you subscribe today. #partner

TO WATCH The Spike Lee-produced documentary Katrina: Come Hell and High Water (on Netflix) is the second recent doc to understand and reckon with the tragedy two decades afterward. (Side note: these pictures of the post-storm devastation, finally released after all that time, are worth a look.) FYI: Meghan Markle’s lifestyle/cooking show, With Love, Meghan, is also returning this week.

TO LISTEN We’ve been enjoying Mac DeMarco’s new album, Guitar, which has a simple, leisurely sort of earnestness that makes for easy listening.

We are very into this shop for cute jewelry at reasonable prices. Like this chunky silver-hued chain necklace, which would look cool peeking out from a crewneck tee or sweater, or this stunning, luxe-looking lapis choker. We are also eyeing these glam deco stud earrings, which would make any outfit a bit fancier, and this colorful anklet, the perfect thing to wear now with flip-flops and later above loafers or clogs.
