The Nicole Kidman Babygirl press tour is on fire right now, so prepare yourself to see and hear a lot from her over the next week.

The erotic drama comes out on Christmas Day; a present for anyone who wants to see a successful female CEO have a kinky affair with a younger man. It’s been compared to 9 ½ Weeks, but this time, Kidman is the older and more successful character, and the film is told – as she explains – from the female gaze. Effort was taken to create an atmosphere of safety and support. “She was tender, and that’s what was required,” says Kidman of director Halina Reijn. “She’s intuitive like that. If she’d been harsh, I think I would have shut down.” This is the complete opposite of what happened in the filming of 9 ½ Weeks, which, if you don’t recall, seriously traumatized actress Kim Basinger.

Kidman has carefully dropped a few personal tidbits in her many interviews about the project, including in this too long GQ UK profile, where she talks about her love for the wind. Why? “I don’t know, I just love it. ’Cause it’s another force coming from somewhere else. And it comes in all different – sometimes it’s a breeze and sometimes it’s a tempest. I love it.” 

After reading a few more interviews, we’ve also learned she loves pajamas (but “they can be tatty sometimes”) and The Rockettes (she goes every year and is “obsessed”). Honestly, yes to all of this. And the movie sounds intriguing, too.

TO WATCH Two acclaimed new films are in theaters this week. There is the masterful adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Colson Whitehead novel Nickel Boys, which is already receiving rave reviews. And there’s A24 art-house accomplishment The Brutalist, which will debut on Imax in New York and LA this week, before rolling out in wider release.
