Hi {{first_name|friend}},
You know you’ve made it as a woman in the entertainment world when you are asked in an interview to explain why you’re hated. It’s a strange kind of humiliation ritual that we’ve watched everyone from Martha Stewart to Serena Williams to Anne Hathaway navigate publicly. That includes writer/director/actor Lena Dunham, whose unfiltered new memoir, Famesick, is out today.
“Lena Dunham is still trying to figure out why people hated her so much,” headlines The New York Times Magazine in an interview with Dunham that covers a lot of other ground. But the hatred, now that’s the clicky part. If you’re actually curious about the book, this interview by the Guardian is a better read.
It’s an interesting time for this project to land. While we’re in a regressive moment when it comes to feminism, body positivity, etc (this is a bummer?), there’s also a renewed appreciation for Dunham’s work. New audiences are discovering, and delighting in, her series Girls. Speaking of: behind-the-scenes details about the show are among the book’s headline-making revelations.
Now almost 40, she’s living a somewhat secluded life, the height of her fame behind her. Maybe — just maybe — that means everyone will be a little more normal about her now, despite her flaws. We’ll see.
Bye,
Your friends at Gloria

When a dress feels too fussy or exposed, pants too constricting, and shorts too impossible, there is always a skirt. Particularly a longer skirt, of which there are plenty these days. They’re a solution when you want to look like you tried, but also want to stay comfortable. Our faves, featuring stripes, lace accents, and more, are below.
The bandana-print version of this skirt is selling out fast — just look at how cute it is. Madewell Drawstring Midi Skirt, $118. Size 00 to 16.
Really pretty. Dôen Marciette Skirt, $248. Size XXS to XXL.
Love the crisp stripes and cut-out detailing near the hem. J.Crew Pull-On Midi Skirt, $198. Size XXS to 3XL.
The accordion pleating makes this one a bit dressier. Proenza Schouler Cecily Skirt, $267. Size 6, 8.
Into the print and the wider waistband. Suzie Kondi Kyria Circle Skirt, $425. Size XS to L.
An investment piece; the cut, fit, color, and fabric are all great. Toast Tea Towel Stripe Skirt, $335. Size XXS to XL.
This one is affordable, lined, and has pockets. Gu Circular Midi Skirt, $39.90. Size XS to XL.
The texture of this white cotton one is cool. The Garment Fleur Slip Skirt, $250. Size 0 to 10.
A sexy lace-trimmed style that’s also very wearable. Staud Sonoma Asymmetric Gathered Lace-Trimmed Midi Skirt, $495. Size 0 to 16.
We have a feeling this drop-waist one will be getting a lot of use this summer. Gap Drop Waist Maxi Skirt, $89.95. Size XXS to XXL.
The thicker cotton and decorative topstitching of this fashion-forward one is extremely appealing (hopefully it’ll go on sale). Tory Burch Canvas Skirt, $595. Size 00 to 14.

TO WATCH The popular Rufi Thorpe novel Margot’s Got Money Troubles — about a young woman whose pregnancy leads to financial pressures and OnlyFans gig work — has been translated to TV; the titular character’s played by Elle Fanning, with Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman as her parents. It looks funny and watchable.
TO SIP We’re celebrating warmer weather with bright, bubbly drinks. Cann’s low-dose THC beverages are easy to sip and keep things mellow without overdoing it. We buy the Build Your Bundle to try a few flavors with each order. Everything is 25% off. Shop it all here. #partner
TO MAKE This cabbage salad is crunchy, tasty, and has a blessedly short ingredient list. We ate it with grilled chicken, and the next day tossed the leftovers with soba for a nice lunch.
TO TRY We really (genuinely!) like this bar of soap, which combines Vacation sunscreen’s amazing signature scent with the exfoliating magic of Soft Services. It’s been helpful for sloughing off ahead of summertime.
