Hi {{first_name|friend}},
A teeny-tiny alarm bell must be ringing in tech circles about how much people hate AI data centers, as last week a few tech writers bravely journeyed from NYC or SF to “figure out” what’s going on (here and here) with the resistance. They discovered that data centers are huge, ugly, loud, and resource-sucking; and that local representatives are cutting secretive deals with these companies, complete with NDAs. And that’s why people are angered and offended. Thank you, captain obvious.
If all of this leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth (like, c’mon!), we have a palate cleanser. This surprisingly beautiful and hilarious essay starts off with the tedium of trying to wipe the hard drive of an old laptop and ends up being a treatise about grief and trying to save all the little digitized fragments of a relationship. Don’t miss the footnotes.
Bye,
Your friends at Gloria

Love it or hate it, it’s back-to-school time. What we need to be acquiring: three-ring folders, spiral notebooks (college ruled!), and a non-hideous zip-up binder. What we’d rather be looking at: all the new sweaters, jackets, denim, and shirts hitting stores right now. Stripes, argyle, and more fall staples, this way.
Love the stripes, the color, the fit, and the material. Alex Mill Bond St Striped Cotton-Cashmere Polo, $168. Size XS to XL.
Cute and perfectly cropped. Gap Canvas Crop Utility Jacket, $128. Size XXS to XXL.
A crisp cotton button-up. J.Crew Jules Classic-Fit Button-Up Shirt, $98. Size 00 to 24.
We foresee a Belgian loafer-filled fall, inspired by this style from The Row that’s almost sold out. Del Toro Shoes Suede Milano Loafer, $199.
So good now with sneakers and a tee, and later with boots and a sweater. Coach Sporty Pleated Midi Skirt, $147.50. Size 00 to 14.
These little cardigans are everywhere right now. Cos Merino Wool Funnel-Neck Cardigan, $129. Size XS to XL.
The most practical option; meanwhile, the kids will be wearing these. Old Navy High-Waisted Barrel Jeans, $40. Size 00 to 30.
This nylon bag is the surprise hit of the season. Valesque Bucket Satin Nylon, $375.
An affordable striped cotton long-sleeve. AE Striped Long-Sleeve T-Shirt, $25.45. Size XXS to XXL.
Luxurious. Aflalo Lyra Shirt in Silk, $250. Size XS to L.
We’re into the sporty-preppy vibes of this zip-up option. Uniqlo Washable Milano Ribbed Full-Zip Cardigan, $69.90. Size XXS to XXL.
It feels early to look at wool jackets, but this one is a winner. Aligne Anouk Jacket, $365. Size UK4 to UK22.
The ideal oversized button-up shirt. Sézane Jade Shirt, $130. Size 2 to 14.
That blue. Gil Rodriguez Sophie Cardigan, $98. Size XXS to XXL.

We’re not ready for summer to end, but we’re anticipating needing a few fall home upgrades. We’re turning to Wayfair to replace the mixing bowls we left at various BBQs, as well as glass food containers with lids that actually match, and fresh sheets (they have cute prints and solids). Wayfair also offers plenty of storage for college move-ins, fall sports gear, and the general return of more stuff everywhere. Shop all the good home upgrades here. #partner

TO READ In The Responsible Party, debut author Claire Carusillo humorously explores a wild family history that includes shipwrecks, vaudeville acts, and a murder. A friend who read an early copy said it’s “weird and wonderful” and that Carusillo is a genius.
TO GET We’ll be at the Livelong Women’s Health Summit in NYC this September for a conversation about solo aging. The two-day event also features Jane Fonda, Bobbi Brown, Dr. Mary Claire Haver, and more. Tickets are going fast. Get yours here, and use code GLORIA for $50 off.
TO WATCH Even if you were never a Blink-182 fan, the new documentary out Thursday about drummer Travis Barker is intriguing. Filmed over the course of nine years, it pivots around the plane crash that almost killed him (and which killed four others on board), and includes his struggles with sudden fame and addiction. There’s also this Tiger King-esque dive into the world of exotic reptile smugglers, which is now out on HBO.
TO BROWSE State, the backpack company that seems to have cornered the market on cute school bags, has introduced sports backpacks and totes. They’re not just for kids; we found a tennis bag we love.
