Hi {{first_name|friend}},

All of a sudden, people in the media industry have realized that most of what they’re being served on social is fake and that covert, paid influence campaigns and armies of “clippers” are responsible for the tidbits that come bobbing up out of the flotsam and jetsam to capture a few moments of our precious attention.

It is with this context in mind that we bring you another health trend targeted middle-aged women: jumping. That’s right, jumping, aka plyometrics. (Here’s an example.) What happened to all the weighted-vest content? Guess everyone’s moved on.

Women’s Health has an even-handed overview of plyometrics for bone health, noting it should be added to strength-training routines for the best outcome. Experts cited in this Wall Street Journal piece say to temper your expectations. Remarks one: “A little bit of jumping two or three times a week could go a long way in benefiting your bone health throughout your lifespan.” Another: “the benefit of jumping is ‘very small’ and ‘exercise should not be viewed as an alternative to osteoporosis medications.’”

Our concern is less about efficacy and more about the relentless drumbeat of “just ten minutes per day” health and beauty must-dos aimed at overwhelmed women. Our time is not unlimited!

Bye,
Your friends at Gloria

To quote Susan Powter, stop the insanity. We’re talking about the proliferation of designer flip-flops. The offenders include Gucci ($880), Tod’s ($825), Phoebe Philo ($950), Saint Laurent ($990), Miu Miu ($795), and Bottega Veneta ($850 — for rubber!). Was Lucy Liu really seen in Brooklyn wearing Rocket Dogs, or was she in this $750 pair from The Row. Save your money; below, nine options for less.

TO LISTEN Guitar-strumming surfer guy Jack Johnson might seem like a mirage from our hazy college years, but he’s still out there making music and films. He just debuted a double LP tied to a new documentary, which will be out in early June.

TO COOK Our teen recently discovered a love of Caesar salad. Turns out it’s a great dinner option. We used this recipe for the dressing (no egg emulsifying or anchovies required) and added shrimp and toasted croutons.

How one country cut stroke deaths. • Sleep advice is indeed extremely annoying. • A powerful family goes in search of answers as to why non-smokers develop lung cancer. • “The men who want women to be quiet.” • After AI destroyed her work, one woman created something AI could never steal.
